Magliano

Magliano is an hamlet of about 3,000 inhabitants of the town of Carmiano, in the province of Lecce. Located about 2 km south-east of the capital city, at 33 m above sea level. The origin and meaning of the name derives from the Roman centurion (Manlio) that had had assigned the territory at the time of the Roman colonization of Salento in the second century BC The city's coat of arms is represented by a shield on which is depicted a sprig of cherry, present in large areas of the territory at the time of the foundation, and five meshes or chain rings.
