Villa Castelli

Villa Castelli is a comune in the province of Brindisi in Puglia, on the south-east Italy coast. Is a comune in Itria Valley at the borderline with north Salento. Its main economic activities are tourism and the growing of olives and grapes. The main attractions are the Castle (Ducal palace)and the church. The castle It was built by the Orsini del Balzo in medieval times but it was already in ruins in the 15th century. In the 17th century the Imperiali bought it and turned it into a fortress, and later was further expanded by the Ungaro. The Church was built in the 10th century in eclectic stile, an elegant union of gothic and romanic. The countryside is home to numerous trulli.
