Church and Dominican Convent

The convent of the Dominicans was built in 1561 by the will of the Prince of Muro Giovan Battista I Protonobilissimo. Entitled to the Holy Spirit, it was built on the ancient Basilian monastery of San Zaccaria employee from the Monastery of San Nicola di Casole. It was the same prince to call the Dominican fathers who, on December 13, 1562, took possession of the convent in the person of Pietro d'Alicante, general Vicar of the order.
In 1583 Cornelia De Monti, wife of Giovan Battista, ordered the building of the monumental church, in the Baroque style.
In 1809, following the Napoleonic legislation on the abolition of religious orders, the monastery was suppressed. The Church and Convent were restored in 1996 to host the meeting of the Council of Agriculture Ministers of the European Union, held as part of the Italian Semester of Presidency.
