Church of San Giovanni Evangelista

The church of San Giovanni Evangelista is located in the historic center of the city.
Its foundation was ordered by the norman count Accardo II in 1133, which gave the house of Cisterno to the Benedictines.
Despite the complex's foundation dates back to the 12th century, very little remains of the original structure.
In the 16th century, the tower was built on several floors and adorned with trefoil arches and mullioned windows with stone barriers, while the construction of the church dates back to 1607.
The interior with a single nave and a latin cross plan, represents the most faithful expression of an inner cloister of Lecce's 17th century.
